Latest changes · 2026-10-13
  • Changed: DeploymentDetails draws only what the deployment carries. Before, every step's state was read off the status alone, so a deployment showed a passed summary, passed domains and waiting checks the host never reported, an empty picture, an empty settings section, and Share and Logs with nothing behind them. Now the picture is there only with preview, the settings only with recommendations, Share only with a unique domain, Logs and the duration only for a build the host saw, Visit only with a domain serving it.
  • Changed (breaking): the steps are DeploymentDetails' children, composed by the consumer from what it can report: DeploymentBuild (its defaultRunSummary moved here from DeploymentDetails), DeploymentSummary, DeploymentChecks, and DeploymentStep (value, title, state, aside) for any other step; each built-in one asserts its part is there, and a deployment carrying a build must show DeploymentBuild. Migration: <DeploymentDetails deployment={d} /> becomes <DeploymentDetails deployment={d}><DeploymentBuild /></DeploymentDetails>, adding DeploymentSummary and DeploymentChecks where the deployment has resources and checks; a domain-assignment step is a DeploymentStep with the state your host reports. stepsOf and DeploymentSteps are gone (buildState, outputState, checksState), and defaultOpen names sections by their value.
  • Changed (breaking): Deployment.build is optional: absent, the build ran where the host could not see it (no started, no duration either). A ready or failed deployment with a build and no start now throws; pass no build instead of an empty one. domains are the hosts serving this deployment now: an older one keeps only its own address.

// DEPLOYMENTS, as a host's dashboard draws them (Vercel's is the reference for layout
// and density, never for its marks): a list of them under filters, and one
// of them in full (`DeploymentDetails`, ui/deployment-details). Drawn from the facts in
// lib/deployment-core, asserted where they enter.
//
//   <DeploymentList deployments={deployments} href={(d) => `/deployments/${d.id}`} />
//
// A ROW is one deployment on one line, 48 px, its columns at fixed widths so every
// row's start where every other's do: the project (its mark and name), the commit's
// message (cut with an ellipsis, whole in its title), the status (a dot, its word, the
// build's duration), the environment (a pill, filled when it is the current one), the
// commit's hash, the branch, and at the end when it was created and who wrote it. A
// row is a link (`href`) or a button (`onOpen`), or neither; the hand lights it.
//
// NARROWER, COLUMNS GO, never squeezed, read from the list's own width (a container
// query, so a narrow column of a wide page drops them too): the branch first, then the
// hash, the message, the environment, then the build's length; the project, the
// status and the time stay, the project's name taking what is left.
//
// THE FILTERS above it: Add Filter (every choice at once) and a dashed chip for each of
// the author, the environment and the status, showing the commonest value; a chip
// opens its choices, read from the deployments the other filters keep, with how many
// each has (so no choice empties the list), and once set it is solid, with its value
// and a way to clear it. The filter is the
// list's own (`defaultFilter`) or the consumer's (`filter`, `onFilterChange`).
//
// THE SMALL PARTS are exported for a page of its own: `DeploymentStatus` (a status's
// dot, amber and pulsing only while it builds, green ready, red error, quiet queued or
// canceled, in the tokens' tones), `EnvironmentBadge`, `CommitRef`, `BranchRef`,
// `ProjectMark`, `AuthorFace`. Times are relative-time's, said as `TIME_WORDS` from
// `now` (a page's own clock, a replay's); without it, from the reader's clock, each
// label ticking while it is seen. A build's running length ticks every second while
// it builds.
//
// Plain, the page's colours: a box of hairlines on the page. `material="glass"` (or a
// glass provider round it) is a pane of the material's glass. Inside a frame already
// drawn (a panel, a tabs box) it draws no box of its own.

// ONE DEPLOYMENT IN FULL, the body of a host's deployment page (the rows and parts are
// ui/deployment's). It draws what the deployment carries and nothing else: a part the
// host does not know is absent, never an empty box, a made-up check or a button with
// nowhere to go (lib/deployment-core, "known").
//
//   <DeploymentDetails deployment={d} links={[…]} actions={[…]}>
//     <DeploymentBuild />
//     <DeploymentSummary />
//     <DeploymentChecks />
//     <DeploymentStep value="domains" title="Assigning Custom Domains" state="passed">…</DeploymentStep>
//   </DeploymentDetails>
//
// Steps may be wrapped in the consumer's own components; a deployment carrying a build
// must show it (DeploymentBuild among them), or the page throws.
//
// THE FIRST BOX: its head (Share for a deployment with an address of its own, Logs for
// the build shown below, Visit with every domain serving it under its chevron, ⋯
// with the consumer's verbs), a picture of the page beside the facts when the host
// took one, the facts (who created it and when, its status, how long the build took
// and when it ended for a build the host saw, its environment and whether it is
// current), the domains serving it (three, the rest behind +N), its source (the
// branch, the commit), and the settings the platform recommends when it recommends.
//
// THE STEPS are the children, each a section that opens in place (accordion), its
// state at its end: a check when it passed, a clock while it waits, a spinner while it
// runs, a cross when it failed, a dash when it was skipped. The consumer composes the
// ones it can feed, and each built-in step asserts its part is there:
//
// DeploymentBuild the build's log (ui/log), its own height, drawing no box of its
// own. Its warnings and errors are counted from its lines; a count
// is a toggle that shows that level and above. Run Summary lays
// the build's spans beside it as a trace (ui/trace), linked both
// ways as lib/telemetry's demo links them. The length the build
//                       took, or has taken.
// DeploymentSummary what the build put out (functions, static assets, the
// middleware), narrowed by kind from Resources.
// DeploymentChecks what ran on it once built.
// DeploymentStep any other step the host reports, its state given (the domains
// being pointed at it, a migration, a promotion).
//
// THE FOOT: the consumer's links to the project's other pages (`links`), a card each.
//
// Plain, boxes of the page's card on the page; glass, panes of the material's glass
// (panel). Every control is the registry's own: Button, Badge, Popover, the menu's
// dropdown, Copy, Accordion, Log, Trace.

// A DEPLOYMENT, as a host's dashboard shows one: what was built (a project, a commit on
// a branch, by someone), where it went (production or a preview, the current one or
// not), how it stands (queued, building, ready, error, canceled), when, how long it
// took, the domains serving it, and what else the host knows of it: a picture, its
// build (the lines the build wrote and the spans it ran, lib/telemetry, so the build's
// log and its trace link both ways), what it put out, the checks run on it, the
// settings it recommends. Framework-free.
//
// known every optional part is a fact the host has or has not: absent means
// the host does not know it, and nothing that draws a deployment makes
// one up. An ended deployment whose build its host never saw (an upload
// built somewhere else) has no `build`, no `started`, no `duration`
// instants ms since the epoch: `created` (pushed), `started` (the build began),
//              every build line's `at` and span's `from` and `to`
// duration ms, written once the build has ended; while it builds, the running
//              time is a calculation (`elapsed`), never a field
// counts a build's warnings and errors are counted from its lines (`buildCounts`),
//              never stored beside them
//
// The facts are asserted (`assertDeployment`, `assertDeployments`): a deployment that
// says it is ready without a duration, or building with one, is a confused program, and
// it screams where the data enters, not three components later.
